My story behind "Pin Money"

Webster's dictionary defines pin-money as "money that is used for small expenses."

The phrase "pin-money" derived from the small allowance that 19th century husbands would give their wives to pay for dressing-making pins.

My definition of "pin-money" comes from my grandmother. My grandmother's version of pin money is quite contrary to the traditional meaning. My grandmother, divorced, with children did not depend on anyone to hand her the money that she needed to buy the things she wanted in life. Instead, she opened a second hand store called "The Pin Money Shop." Calling the store "second-hand" seems wrong. The Pin Money Shop was filled with the most beautiful, high-end clothing, donated by the most well-to-do women of the area. My grandmother's shop gave everyday women the opportunity to feel like the first lady, everyday, at second hand prices. At such a young age, I remember what an impact this store made on everyday women of the area.

I want to do the same for you...in a modern day way. This blog will share ideas for "the everyday woman" who wants to look and feel beautiful without spending a fortune. This is my version of "The Pin Money Shop" this is my My Pin Money.

Happy Friday Pin Money Girls!! I am sooo ready for the long Memorial weekend ahead! Last night my fiance and I, along with family and friends attended a Muscular Dystrophy fundraiser event and the theme was Great Gatsby!! I am so pumped that this style is coming back because it was SO MUCH FUN dressing up in this style. I found my dress at Forever 21 for $16.00, added a belt, and made the headpiece from items at Hobby Lobby. The entire look was no more than $30.00! I realize I look kind of ridiculous in the up-close selfie, but it's the only pic I had of the headpiece to show! I will definitely be rocking this look more!! Have a great weekend girls!! xoxo

Feminine Touches: Polka Dots and Bows!

Happy Wednesday Pin Money girls! There is something so simple yet sophisticated about polka dots and bows. At any age, this style just works. Today- I threw my hair in a sock bun, and paired my new Forever 21 polka dot top with a bow belt, red ankle pants, and sling back bow shoes. I love this top because it is so transitional- it can be paired with colored ankle pants, jeans, or skirts. The look is simple, yet feminine and is a perfect go-to outfit for the office or for grabbing lunch with girlfriends.

Pin Money: For REAL Girls!

I just LOVE when Pin Money followers have been inspired by Pin Money posts, and send me looks that they have created! Check out the beautiful Lindsay from Chicago, Illinois. She was recently inspired by the Target Mossimo Ankle Pant post and went out and bought them in mint! I love how her look is soft, and feminine with a pop of color from the shoes. The white blouse with black polka dots and the white cardi are clean and sleek with the mint pants, and the pop of the pink bow slingbacks adds that something extra to create a real wow factor. Lindsay- you look amazing and gorgeous! Thank you for sharing your photo!!!xoxo

Best of all these pants come in a variety of fun colors so they let me tap into my fun, fashionable side, even for the office. These pants are definitely a great buy! See for yourselves Pin Money girls!!
